Today my class was starting a unit on migration and general movement of people. My classroom teacher started by asking students to write down everything they thought they knew about immigrants on paper. Then, we watched a short video on historical migration patterns of people and where people originiated from starting 75,000 years ago. From there, my Classroom teacher defined first generation - 6th generation immigrants and asked students to try to identify what generation immigrant they were. There was everywhere from first through sixth generation immigrants in the classroom. It was an interesting way to address immigration as a concept in today's political climate.

Students identified more geographical themes and applied them to larger areas outside fo south america.
Student identified resources present in south america and various region's climates. They were tasked with questions regarding where they would pick if they had to start a business with certain criteria.
Today was the first day back from break. My classroom teacher introduced a new topic. They are working on topographical features of south america.
Today, students took a test on the unit they've been working on. Tomorrow, their last day of class this week, they will do housekeeping stuff and return assignments, retake quizes and such, and have time to complete miscellaneous tasks.
Since Thanks Giving break is next week, the class is working on finishing up their unit. Again, my classroom teacher has structured today as work time for the students to finish taking notes and do binder work.
Today, my classroom teacher collaborated with the other social studies teacher to take every class down to the vetran's memorial in Minnesota square park. The students were supposed to find three people on the wall and record what armed conflict they participated in, which branch of the armed forces, and their date of birth and death. The teachers used the activity the next couple of days. I mainly went along as another adult supervisor.
The students worked today on their group projects in more individual work time. I spent most of the time helping answer questions and help keep students on task.
Apparently, the school had an early out today. I ended up working with a different class than normal. Apparently, eighth grade is split into a couple of groups: English language learners, advanced math students, "normal" students.
I was with the advanced math class and the difference in class room environment was wildly different.
The students spent today working through written material reading and taking notes. I primarily wandered around and kept students on task.
