Working with these students on their reading, writing, and apparently dodgeball was awesome!
It was very exciting to have the opportunity to work on students with reading today, as well as seeing the organized chaos that ensues first-hand when students are rewarded with outside time for scoring well on their MCA tests.
Had a wonderful experience working with the students to produce plotlines and first drafts of their very own short stories. There was also a lot of time spent aiding a new student who just moved to the district and was beginning his first day at the middle school to get comfortable and to catch up on the book the class is reading.
I had the amazing chance to work with a few of the ELL students today on creating a storyline for their own books that they are beginning to draft. It was so awesome to see the way their faces lit up when they explained their plots to me!
It is pretty remarkable to be able to watch these kids learn English. Right now, they are working on preparing for the MCAs, which one student decided to inform his teacher were evil. This time I had the opportunity to work with an entire classroom as I became the scorekeeper in a very important review game.
Was so awesome to read with some ELL kids today and get the opportunity to watch them complete an activity on learning how to make an inference in literature! Two of the kids instantly lit up when they saw me as they entered the classroom and said hello because they remembered working with me last week, an unbelievable feeling.
I spent 40 minutes with Stephanie Evan's 5th grade English class. Half of the time was spent reading the assessment aloud for a few students who struggle with reading and the other half was having one of those students read to me to practice her reading skills. It was a great experience and I look forward to helping out again next week!
