Today we started a new unit in our class. We taught them words for family members and me gusta/no me gusta. Many of the words are cognates to the English words, so the children were able to begin to pick up on the words very quickly! They were much rowdier and more squirmish than normal, which made teaching and small groups a challenge for all us, but the day was still productive.
Me and Alayna finished watching our movie, went on a little walk, and got ice cream in the caf!
Today was our last day teaching animals and colors. The kids were finally starting to be able to recognize and come up with the words on their own, which was super exciting! They were pretty tame today, but always eager to help. During the game, the kids would help each other and participated as much as they could. Overall, a very good and productive hour!
Today we did the same as last week, we continued watching our movie and had some snacks!
Today was my first day of teaching at South Elementary! The class went by extremely fast! We went through the powerpoint with the kids first. They were all very interactive with us and seemed very curious about what we were teaching them. They also loved the songs. We then split into the four groups to read the books and play the games. My group did fairly well, I had a few students complain during this time, but it was nothing I couldn't manage or try to spin into a positive mindset for them. I found it was challenging for them to understand the book, simply because it's all very foreign to them, they knew almost none of the words. The game was a bit easier for them because it included things that had learned prior, but they all really struggled with the new words. I'm excited for the next weeks to watch them progress and hopefully be able to understand more Spanish!
Today we started a movie and ate chips and salsa!
