I helped the English class of Somalian adults learn grammar, vocabulary and U.S. facts in order to study for the citizenship test.
We went over grammar, and possible questions on the citizenship test. We also went over vocabulary, which brought up some cultural differences, such as the fact that pets are not a part of Somalian culture.
I helped teach a group of Somalian adults about American history in preparation for the citizenship test.
I helped a group of Somalian adults learn how to use the past tense.
I helped a Somali woman learn about the calendar, money, and numbers.

Fern is one of the most incredible and inspiring people I have ever met, and I feel so lucky to have been able to get to know her throughout this year through Adopt-A-Grandparent. I have so enjoyed being able to paint her nails, read to her, and just listen to her tell stories about the adventures she has been on in her life. She has been there for me through all of the crisises and transitions of my freshman year, and has given me so much perspective on this time of my life. I will never forget her advice and insight about love, careers, traveling, and just appreciating each time of your life for the unique opportunities you have.
