Today, I worked on two activities with the students, one was a word game and the other was a math activity. The word game had different cards and the students had to tell me if the word was a "silly word" or a "real word." It took a while, so we only got through a couple students. After the word game, the whole class moved onto a math game that involved going around the school and finding frogs that had numbers on them. The students had to write down the numbers on their white boards. I had a group of four students and the two other teachers had a group of students. It was fun to see them think through the counting. Some knew the answer right away while others took some practice. I can't wait to see what we do next after spring break.
Today, we finally decided to play on the air hockey table in the Dive. It was really fun to see him play on something he hasn't played with before. We played with air hockey for most of the time and he was really happy. We had picked out the monopoly game just in case we wanted to play something else, but we ended up playing air hockey the whole time. When we were leaving my partner was very interested in the tornado timeline and pictures in the entrance of the student center. He asked all kinds of questions about the tornado and the destruction it left. He his very curious about construction and building.
Today, was my second day with Mrs. Sizer's kindergartners and it was really fun. We dissected owl pellets because they are working on the letter "O." The kids loved it, they were really into the dissecting and finding the different kinds of bones. I loved watching them work together on their project. After dissecting, they then filled out a sheet that said what did you find, what was your favorite and what was your least favorite part about dissecting the owl pellets. Many said they loved finding the bones and they disliked how they had to stop. I think it's so cool to see students getting engaged with natural elements. I can't wait to see what we do next.
This was a really fun and fascinating field trip! My little partner had been to the Children's Museum in Mankato before and said his favorite part was the tree fort. When we arrived I was in awe of how many cool activities there were for kids! We played at almost every station! He really enjoyed the lego building table, the tree fort, the train/farm table and the tire/ potato table! We made a block necklace and played a long time at the sand and construction area. Overall, I was really impressed at the museum and I thought we had plenty of time to explore everything.
We have gotten into a system where we pick a game from the CBSL cabinet (it's always a different game) and then we head to the dive to play with it. It was fun because he picked a game that I didn't know how to play and so we had to learn how to play it together. I also showed him all of the table top games that we could play on next time. But the game that we love to play the best, is with the toy cars, marbles and the ramps in the dive! We spent most of our time racing cars down the ramp and it reminds me of when I did that as a kid. We can't wait till we have warmer weather and can play outside.
Today was my first day in Mrs. Sizer's kindergarten class. We got acquainted and then I was working with students on finishing a math activity. They were working on their sets of ten and I had them tell me the number and then fill in how many their were. This was a great way to interact with the students and I always have a different experience with the students. I'm excited to work with Mrs. Sizer's kindergarteners!
Today, we took advantage of the CBSL cabinet with all the games. We have picked a new game from the cabinet every time. This time it was Ker Plunk and Twister. We took them to the dive and just played with mostly Ker Plunk the whole time. It's fun to see my partner find new ways to play with a game and he really became fascinated with the marbles. I can't wait to see what other game we choose next.
There was a BPLP get together event for the spring semester. Here they had juice, pizza and cookies while we all played a couple of rounds of bingo. Lots of kids were able to win big prizes while everyone else was able to pick out a small prize at the end. My partner and I also did a little bit of painting at the very end. It was a fun and quick event.
Today was the first time that I was able to hang out with Owen since the start of second semester. It was really fun to see how much he has grown and learned over the first semester. We went to the CBSL office and tried out the new board games and toy cars. We took them to the Dive and had a lot of fun. We will definitely use the game/toy cabinet again.
Today was Amy and mine's last time in Ms. G's 8th grade English class. It was a pretty chill day, we watched them take a quiz and then they had work time. The students are finishing up "The Outsiders" and were reading or working on assignments. After that we chatted with Ms. G and wished her happy holidays.
