Today was my final day with Ms. Guaponne's class! I stayed long today as well. First, I did some homework corrections for Ms Guaponne, then I worked with two students who were behind on their rounding assignment. This was challenging because the students were clearly very tired, and struggling to focus on math. At the end of my session, students presented me with a certificate that they signed thanking me for my help... very sweet!
Went early so I could assist in the lunchroom and chat with the kids. Had fun getting to know them a little better. After lunch, we went into math where I ran a table that played a counting game. The kids really enjoyed this. Ended with free time with the students. I helped two students finish math tests. Another fun day in the classroom.
Average day in the classroom. Listened to students read once again. Some students even wrote their own stories so that was very interesting to hear.
A parent of the students came in to show the class a new fun thinking game where they had to memorize a path on the floor. Very exciting to watch the kids learn through trial and error and see their reactions for each side. Then there was an assembly in the gym where I helped keep the students under control and focused on the speakers.
Today I facilitated some spelling tests for Ms Guaponne. Also, there are two student teachers from MSU now teaching in this classroom, so I am getting the opportunity to observe them.
This class period I lead math groups so I got to work with each of the 3 groups which are made by how much assistance the students will need. I also got to interact with the students at lunch time. The class I help in is definitely the best behaved.
Today I assisted with group book projects. Students were split into 3 groups and given a character from the story they read and were instructed to describe their character and then draw the character. Students had to use teamwork to complete the project. Some groups were great at communicating exactly what each of them were going to do. Others struggled which lead to some students becoming upset. Overall, it was a fun experience for me.
