The First Tee of Greater Austin, Spring, Summer and Fall Internship Opportunity   A Little About Us

At The First Tee of Greater Austin, we believe that sports, specifically the game of golf, provide a platform to encourage core values and healthy choices. We use the game of golf and our life-skills based curriculum to teach to youth about:

-        Properly introducing themselves

-        Communicating with Others

-        Managing Emotions

-        Setting Goals

-        Making Healthy Choices

-        Respecting themselves, others and their surroundings

-        Core values like courtesy, honesty, confidence, respect, responsibility, judgment, respect, sportsmanship, and perseverance.


We provide over 1,200 hours worth of camps, after-school and seasonal programs per year at golf facilities in all parts of the Austin metro area. We are based on the East side at the Harvey Penick Golf Campus (5501 Ed Bluestein Blvd). HPGC houses TFTGA's office and has been owned and operated by TFTGA since it opened in 2005. We raise funds throughout the year through individual and corporate donors, 5+ fundraisers and grants and we are a volunteer driven organization.


You May Recognize Us From

We are a local chapter that is part of a national organization that was formed in 1997 by all of golf's major bodies (see below). There are now over 180 chapters of The First Tee program nationwide and each market is independently operated. The First Tee is frequently featured on Golf Channel and during telecasts/onsite at professional golf events. The Austin chapter is one of the largest in the network in students served per year and operating budget.


Internship Opportunities

We are in need interns who want to gain experience and make an impact in one or several of the following areas:


Event Management

Supervisor: Jennifer MacCurrach, Executive Director

-   Collect all information needed for fundraising event attendees (names, emails, addresses); assist in follow up until reached.

-   Correspond with donors/sponsors to collect logos, verify sponsor fulfillment and provide materials

-   Attend meetings with caterer/sponsors/venues to verify details (specific to each event)

-   Assist with volunteer/seating assignments as necessary

-   Work with Director of Instruction to verify that all kids who plan to participate have all details (attire, time, location)

-   Event follow up - thank you and donation receipts


Marketing / Communications

Supervisor: Ryan Guier, Director of Marketing & Comm.

-   Collect content for eblasts and newsletters

-   Take and post pictures of programs on TFTGA Flickr account

-   Help maintain digital content on

-   Help maintain TFTGA Facebook and Twitter accounts by drafting content and compiling content calendar

-   Draft/edit press releases and send/follow up with media list

-   Aid in sponsor activation on website/social media

-   Help HPGC marketing efforts - golf and Footgolf

-   Record metrics on eblast open rates/conversions; bitly clicks


Supervisor: Derrick Elstob - Program & Outreach Manager

-   Help with online registration and preparation for programs and camps

-   Collect and organize information on participants

-   Aids with correspondence between TFTGA / families about programs

-   Serve as a coach/volunteer for several classes (training provided) and help sign in/sign out participants

-   Maintain inventory shirts/TFT booklets/prizes

-   Assist in outreach and satellite locations (Blackhawk, Balcones, Falconhead, Jimmy Clay, Onion Creek, Topgolf)



All areas will involve:

-     Database management

-     Donor/participant correspondence

-     Development and sales

-     Knowledge of our curriculum/youth development principles

-     Volunteer coordination and outreach
